Mirage IIIV takes off and lands vertically, using eight RB 162 engines for vertical thrust and one TF104 for forward propulsion. Two prototypes fly beautifully, but lack of suitable engines prevent development of an operational version.
1963


Mystère 20, father to the Falcon 20 series, flies on May 4. Dassault designed and constructed the prototype at its own expense.

Pan Am establishes it Business Jets Division in July 1963, and places an order for 40 Falcon 20's with an option for another 120.
